This summer at Kelp House, we had the privilege of working alongside one of our residents, Ahmed, on a very special project: creating a garden.Together, we planned the activity from the very beginning. We visited the shop, picked out seeds and fertiliser, and got to work transforming the garden space. What started as a simple idea quickly became a therapeutic and rewarding experience for everyone involved. As we worked step by step, Ahmed developed greater focus, attention to detail, and emotional regulation. While he already had the practical skills, he often found it challenging to stick with one task from start to finish. Gardening gave him a chance to slow down, stay present, and complete the process with a little help from his close friend Ali, who regularly visits and offered his support. The project not only encouraged fine motor coordination, hand eye coordination, and dexterity, but also provided a deep sense of autonomy and accomplishment. The highlight came when Ahmed proudly saw his pumpkin grow, sharing with excitement that he plans to use it for Halloween. At Delphinus Healthcare, we believe that meaningful activities like this are powerful tools in recovery. They offer therapeutic benefits, build confidence, and strengthen relationships, all while bringing joy into everyday life.It was an honour to be part of this journey with Ahmed, and we are proud to see the positive impact this small garden has had on his wellbeing, personal growth, and path to recovery.
